Occupy Oakland Open Forum

Posted on 08 February 2012 by zuchinno

  • What: Horizontal Open Forum: Governmental Repression
  • When:  Tuesday, February 7, 2012, 7:00pm until 9:00pm
  • Where: Oscar Grant Plaza aka 1 Frank Ogawa Plaza, Oakland, CA  94612
  • Who: Occupiers!

Theme is Governmental Repression.

Bring your best thoughts and your deepest respect. Snacks, crayons, and paper encouraged.

The meeting will begin with a statement of informed consent to being part of this discussion and everything that this consent entails– that while a statement made by someone within the group might offend you, if it fits with the theme of discussion, it’s fine, because they have just as much a right to say it. Obviously this is to be a safe space for discussion, so we will deal with bigotry as a collective, on a case by case basis.

The first 30 minutes will be dedicated to an open stack. After that, we’ll talk amongst ourselves, and then have another open stack.

This forum is an autonomous solidarity action that has come out of the conversations on the Bridge Caucus wall. Bridge Caucus has offered its name, solidarity, and assistance to help get the word out about this event.

This forum is for all Occupiers who just need to talk about Occupy and have a broader & more varied conversation than what’s available at a committee meeting, and deeper than the discussion between announcements and voting at GA.

I believe that Occupy is about facilitating self-advocacy and self-representation so that we all, as autonomous people, can be confident leaders. This is a good, low-key place to develop these skills, and play around with experimental facilitation.
