Occupy Oakland FTP March
The Occupy Oakland Tactical Action Committee is hoping its next Anti-Repression/ Fuck the Police march this Saturday will draw a larger crowd than last weekend’s march. The Anti-Repression/ Fuck the Police march is a direct response to the police’s continued harassment of protestors in Oscar Grant Plaza and to police brutality against protestors during large actions.
At last week’s march, police once again used excessive force with protestors. In one highly-circulated video, they are seen pulling a woman off her bike and beating her while others scream for them to stop. This is only one in the many documented and undocumented cases of police brutalizing protestors. In fact, two cops were disciplined this week for misconduct in connection with Occupy Oakland protests. (You can read a play-by-play of last weekend’s march here.)
OPD has also been keeping heavy surveillance at Oscar Grant Plaza, frequently swooping in and snatching protestors without warning. Charges for arrests include “obstructing space” and “lynching.” A few of those arrested who got out of jail this week have been banned from Oscar Grant Plaza as a condition of their release. Is this the authorities’ next strategy to keep us from peacefully organizing?
The Tactical Action Committee hopes you’ll join them for this weekend’s Anti-Repression/ Fuck the Police march. Last week, several people brought bubbles in contrast to the aggressive nature of the march. The T.A.C. is encouraging people to wear black and be prepared for and respect the use of tactics not usually employed at regular Occupy Oakland events. Occupy Oakland continues to support a diversity of tactics and welcomes the participation of all.
