Police Raid #OccupySF 's #SFCommune 2 Apr 2012

On 1 April 2012, Occupy SF marched to 888 Turk Street to take over a former clinic owned by the Archdiocese of San Francisco. Since even the Archdiocese has to pay taxes on a vacant building, they’d told the government that it was only vacant recently in order to evade paying. In reality, 888 Turk had been vacant for about 5 years. Occupy SF solved the problem for them and [...]

Occupy Oakland Forum on Police Actions

Occupy Oakland is hosting a Forum on Police Actions on February 9, 6:15 pm at the Grand Lake Theater. Jailed for marching, what it means for your kids.

by Beth Seligman, J. D. Summary:  We were jailed for marching. Some were jailed for walking home from the grocery store. We were denied medication, sleep, blankets, time, sanitation, and given bologne sandwiches for breakfast lunch and dinner even though many are vegetarians or could not eat that meat for religious reasons. Some were not booked for 40 hours, meaning we did not exist and some are still in jail and [...]

Police Brutality: My Experience and Learning

I received some very important lessons, personal growth lessons on Saturday.  I believe we are participating, collectively, in the rising up, the expansion, the re-membering of our human-ness.   If we are able to help each other in our processes of awakening, we will only be more unified.  One way is by sharing our stories.  What is true for me is that I have grown and been tremendously moved by listening [...]

January 29, 2011 – Oakland, CA – Yesterday, the Oakland Police deployed hundreds of officers in riot gear so as to prevent Occupy Oakland from putting a building, vacant for 6 years with no plans for use, from being occupied and “re-purposed” as a community center. The Occupy Oakland GA passed a proposal calling for the space to be turned into a social center, convergence center and headquarters of the [...]

Misinformation, Disinformation and African-American Lynchers

Several news sources and articles, as well as the OPD Press Release dated January 3rd, 2012, have misstated the facts surrounding recent city and police actions at Oscar Grant/Frank Ogawa plaza. For the record, here are some facts to counter some misinformation caused by lazy mainstream media reporting: 1. The Tipi Vigil was the product of a general assembly proposal that passed through the GA. But the permit was not [...]

New Raids at Occupy Oakland

The Oakland Police Department conducted what was, even by their standards, a brutal and unwarranted raid at the Occupy Oakland vigil today. The reasons given for the first arrests were having “possessions in the plaza”, which is not a crime. Watch this video: The police then escalated the level of violence: video via @geekeasy This is a quick synopsis of a police raid that occurred on vigilers at OGP today [...]
