Visiting Mayor Rahm at Home #Chicago #NoNATO #OccupyChi

On our second day in Chicago, we marched to the mayor’s home and protested the closing of 6 of the city’s 12 mental health clinics. People from all over the nation joined in protest against the privatization of all aspects of our lives. Corporations have profit, not people’s health at heart and Rahm Emanuel has shown himself to be just another politician for the 1%.

Former Political Prisoners Mary O'Sullivan and Chris Fogarty Interview #NoNATO #OccupyChi

Our bus dropped us off in Chicago at 6:30am, and by 11:00am, I was interviewing two famous activists in Daley Plaza. The FBI tried to frame Chris Fogarty and Mary O’Sullivan, but their plans fell apart under scrutiny. Today, Chris and Mary continue their fight for justice.

How to Stop Foreclosure Auctions 1 Jun 2012

More homeowner auctions shut down! On 1 June 2012, community residents came together to show the banks and speculators that we know that 84% of their foreclosures are illegal and we will not allow these robberies and land grabs to continue. Bay Area Occupies joined ACCE and nonviolently raised hell. The speculators had no choice but to leave.

The May Day People's Street Festival 1 May 2012 #M1GS

Happy May Day! While the 1% were off buying politicians, Occupy SF celebrated by taking over heart of San Francisco’s “Wall Street”, Montgomery Street at Market Street, and staging the People’s Street Festival. We had performances, dancing, music and speeches, but the two main events were painting a giant Sun on the street, filling the entire intersection, and toppling our giant puppet of a 1% oligarch. Can you tell he’s [...]

Chevron Challenged: Occupy Environmental Justice offers

On Wednesday, May 30, in solidarity with people from around the world coming to Chevron’s annual shareholders meeting at their San Ramon headquarters, Occupy Environmental Justice activists made our presence known outside Chevron’s San Francisco office at 345 California St. We creatively called attention to their reckless fossil fuel extraction practices, which include hydraulic fracturing in California. Hydraulic fracturing, aka “fracking”, is a toxic method of drilling for oil and [...]

Thank Yous From the Bus to L.A.

Please Donate to help us pay for the trip! We want to thank the people who donated money toward our trip back home. But just as important, we want to thank all the people who worked hard to get the word out to everyone about our plight. The Comms team is just one of those groups that works hard to help us all, sometimes cleaning up messes other people made. [...]

Police Van Runs Over Protester, Occupy Media People are Safe for Now

It’s 10:53pm Chicago time. The police have been raiding safe houses to make sure protesters have no place to stay. They’re even threatened to raid churches. My friend confirms: he saw the police run over a protester with a van.CPD is chasing and kettling people. All this to stop the people and protect the corporate war machine. I’ve finally confirmed that my three friends are OK. Rene and Krissana are [...]

Greetings from Omaha

Please Donate to help us pay for the trip! I actually got some sleep on the bus last night. Maybe three hours or so. It looks like we'll be getting to Chicago tonight, fingers crossed, so we're gathering all the updates we'll need when we get there. I hope the team will get a good night's sleep tonight lying fully horizontal, but I figure we better be prepared for anything. [...]

CNA Can't Stop Occupy Media

Did the California Nurses Association try to block Bay Area Occupiers from going to Chicago? That’s what we’re being told. It seems someone at the top of the organization cancelled our bus, just because they seemed to believe that Oakland is all about violence. If you’re a nurse, you’ve probably noticed that the main stream press often distorts the true picture of what it means to be a nurse. Don’t [...]

What time do we get to Chicago?, or How I Learned to Miss the Bus

“for anyone who’d like to go. It’s totally free!” And with thanks to 99% Solidarity, my colleagues and I in Occupy Media were on our way to Chicago. Or, so we thought. May 6, 5:12pm Pacific Time. Rene posts the notice and I’m one of the first to sign up. First area of confusion: Their front page says there’ll be a bus from San Francisco, where I live, but the [...]
