Sunday
NOON O’CLOCK
This event is a fun way for us as a community to learn to work together so we can be more effective in the streets. This means being more physically fit, but also meeting each other in a very physical way outside of protests.
Having physical team building exercises will help us get to know each other as individuals and develop a verbal and non-verbal short hand with each other leading to better communication when we are in dangerous situations.
We need to develop an understanding of each others limits, fears and comfortability with confrontation. This will give us a better understanding of when everyone will be ok with moving forward during a protest, or when it is really time to retreat. Moving forward during a protest requires a consensus and a commitment from a critical mass of people. This consensus needs to be made quickly and informally. Better communication skills and greater trust will make for better and safer outcomes for those who regularly participate in protests.
This event will happen every week Sunday at noon.
Also please know that this event is open to people of every ability. A big part of capture the flag is communications, surveillance, and decision making. People of every physical ability will be valued.
GAME GUIDELINES:
1) We will be playing in the streets in an approximately 7×7 block area. Location will be decided by participants.
2) People are encouraged to bring anything that will help them get the flag down the field or assist in team communication, walkie talkies for instance would be very useful. Real life items of any kind, no rules. Bikes are allowed for scouting, but bikers are not allowed to touch the flag. Cars are allowed but only as hideouts, must be stationary.
3) No hurting each other, (obviously)
.
Things to Bring
While you are welcome to bring anything that you think would help in game play (within reason and common sense), the items listed below are especially recommended:
Walkie-talkies and other communication devices- Use of walkie-talkies makes communication between teammates faster and more effective. When communication and strategy are prioritized it creates space for people who are disabled or unable to run to participate as dispatchers and orchestrators. If you have walkie-talkies please bring them, it makes the game more inclusive.
Fully charged phone- Players can call each other or utilize text messaging or secret twitter hashtags in lieu of walkie-talkies. Phone headsets or headphones with microphones could be useful.
Sunscreen
Water
High energy snacks
First Aid items- We will be in motion over hard surfaces and accidents can happen. If you are able to bring ibuprofen or band aids that would be rad.
Potluck dish for picnic after the game(s). There will be a hang out sesh after every game, bring some food for everyone to share!
